A really cool thing happened to me today while I was at Walgreen's...I ran into another couponer!  There we were, standing between the Advil and Vick's Vapor Rub comparing our coupon organization methods.  She complimented me on my binder and I was impressed with her "card-catalogue" type system.  We shared tips and great deal stories!  

It was AWESOME! 

I'm getting more and more addicted every day!

Where in the world do you FIND these coupons?

The better question is “Where DON'T you find coupons?!?!?” 

There are several places to find coupons.

You can find coupons in several places. First, you can find coupons in your local Sunday paper. The coupon inserts are normally put out by redplum, SmartSource, and P&G.  

Then there's the little known magazine called "all you”.  It is a great place to get coupons! They always have an insert of coupons, plus coupons throughout the magazine! I love this magazine! Its worth the purchase.

You can find coupons ON product, (these are called peelies.)

There are always coupons in the blinkie machines.

Then you have your online coupons-or “printable coupons” You can find printable coupons on manufacturer websites, coupons.com, smartsource.com, redplum.com and many other sites.

I have a link along the left side of the web page that you can click to print out coupons. You can typically print a coupon twice per computer. For example, you   print a coupon for BUTTERFINGER SNACKERZ, you can print that one additional time. You can do that by hitting the backspace on your internet browser. Please understand, it is NOT okay to photocopy these coupons. Each coupon has a unique number associated with it. There are plenty of deals out there, no need to cheat the system.

Store coupons can be found on store websites. You can also find coupon flyers and booklets IN stores. 

There are some stores that accept competitor coupons. That would mean they accept ANOTHER store’s STORE coupon. 

Facebook and Twitter are also great places to find coupons.  Many manufacturers have Facebook and Twitter accounts.  Most of the time, all you have to do is "like" or "follow" them to be able to get coupons.

ASK YOUR NEIGHBORS

They might be throwing away their coupons and that is JUST WRONG!!!  

This is a perfect opportunity to gather duplicates of your coupons.  I did that this weekend!  There is a $1.00 off a Jack's Pizza coupon in the coupon inserts this weekend.  I now have FIVE of these coupons!  I can't wait until JACKS PIZZA is 5 for $10.00...I will use these coupons and get 5 for $5.00 or $1.00 each!

It never occured to me to shop in the cleance aisle with my coupons until one day, I was meandering down the clearance aisle at my WalMart and I found the deal of all deals (at least to me!)

Usually this is priced at around 25.00, in the clearance aisle it was marked down to $7.50! I had a $5.00 off coupon so I got this for $2.50!

After finding this great deal, I went to Kroger and snooped around the Health & Beauty aisles and found Skintamate Shave Gel on CLOSEOUT from 3.99 to 1.48 and I had a $1.00 off coupon so I got it for .48!!

Check your stores clearance and closeout aisles!
I've seen hair color, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, laundry detergent and Fabreeze type stuff in my WalMarts clearance aisle and there are all kinds of coupons for that stuff in the paper every week and online. Don't settle for paying what "they" want you to pay! ALWAYS look for the "better" deal!

Who Is the BEST BANG Coupon Lady?

My name is Dee and I am a happily married mother of 2 boys. Husband and Sons enjoy the eating thing so I am in charge of the shopping thing. 9 times out of 10, I "fail" at my "job" because I didn't get the "good cereal" or "something good to snack on"

My reply to their oh-so-constructive feedback? "Sorry, it wasn't on sale/it was too expensive/mommy needed a mani-pedi"

I usually picked up the store brand "Toaster Pops" and told them they were lucky they had a mother that loved them enough to even GET them a snack! Then I would ask them to back up off me because, well...boys are stinky and I don't need them smelling up my kitchen...but mostly because I just got a pedi and I didnt want them to smudge my toes!

Then one morning on WGN Morning News, there was this lady showing us how to buy Fourty-Two THOUSAND Dollars worth of groceries for Sixty-two cents (well, I might be exaggerating a bit...)

I was curious! I started looking into this coupon thing in a totally different way! This lady bought 2 months worth of NAME BRAND cereal and enough NAME BRAND cereal bars, Pop Tarts and Granola bars to keep her children off of HER freshly polished toes for an entire school year and spent about 5 dollars!


WHAT?!?!?!?

The more I looked, the more I realized that I cannot just hop right in and be as good as the best of the best...I need to study and DO.

Best Bang By Being a Forward Thinking Shopper!

How many times have you bought something you needed only to see it a week later on sale? It happens to everyone and its crazy frustrating to think that if you had waited a few more days you could have saved a few bucks.

Yesterday I mentioned that one of the new rules I have learned that you are to never, EVER shop for things you need when you need them. I've always WANTED to be that person...you know the one-the one that buys winter clothes in the summer from the sales rack and who buys Christmas presents and decorations in January to get the deep, deep discounts...but I haven't quite wrapped my head around it tight enough to do it. Its hard to think about spending money for things you're not going to use NOW.

It's that NOW mentality that “they” say you have to get out of. And it makes sense. For example, we all use toilet paper and the average price for the large multi-roll packs are 7.99 (much more if you're a brand snob) and we've all had those emergencies where we've had to run out for toilet paper and then we are we have to pay whatever price is listed. Now lets say you were paying attention to your BEST BANG Coupon Lady and your local sales ads and found that Charmin 4-packs were on sale for $1.25 and you had like 10- $1.00 off coupons (because, again-you paid attention to the BBCL and told you to sit of these coupons and wait for a great deal) now, you've got 40 rolls of Charmin for $2.50! (Thanks to Anna-Lori for this specific example! SHOUTOUT!!!)

You should never pay full price for cereal! Seriously! The price of cereal is outrageous if its not on sale! NEVER pay 4.00 for cereal because it will be 1.99 in a few weeks, and since you are sitting on your coupons-you can stock up when its on sale!

Another thing you should never, EVER pay full price for is toothpaste! Why pay $3.00 today for one tube when you can hang out with me, your BBCL, and wait for me to tell you that Kroger has COLGATE toothpaste on sale for $1.00 a tube and there are .50 off coupons-which Kroger doubles to $1.00 and now your Colgate is FREE!?!?!?!? (oh, btw... its true- Kroger does have COLGATE toothpaste on sale for $1.00 a tube and there are .50 off coupons-which Kroger doubles to $1.00 and now your Colgate is FREE!!!!)

Here is my example:
I use canned tomatoes a lot when I cook and I saw that my local Kroger had them on sale for .88 a can and I had a coupon for .40 off the purchase of 3 cans. 3 cans at REGULAR price would be $3.15, but on sale it was $2.64. Kroger doubles coupons up to .50, so my coupon was now .80 off so my grand total was $1.84 (which was a savings of $1.31!)
Now...being the forward thinker that I am, I am pleased with my savings and know that the next time I need tomatoes, I have them and I wont have to pay full price when I need them.

If you've read My Blog Post: GETTING OTHERS ON BOARD you will know that THE HUSBAND is not crazy about stocking up...at all....not even a little bit. I get it...I really do. We have a limited budget and sometimes it seems crazy to buy something you dont' need NOW. I'm working on bringing him around to the COUPON WAY! So far he approved my coupon binder purchase and even agreed to let me try to MAKE “designer” binders, so I'm slowly wearing him down.

Getting Your BEST BANG with PRINTABLE COUPONS

There are FOUR things that I have learned so far in my quest to be the very best BEST BANG Coupon Lady I can be.

1.You are to never, EVER shop for things you need when you NEED them...
2.You need to be prepared to hit up 2 or 3 (or more) different stores in your neighborhood to get the best deals!
3.You can't be BRAND LOYAL........AND
4.PRINTABLE COUPONS ARE YOUR FRIEND

I've been directing you to the blue box to the left of the page, and if you havent checked it out, you really should. Right now they are offering 152 different coupons to choose from. You can click through and get all the ones you want, or you can do what I do and print them all. I know that I wont use them all, but I have a neighbor who cares for her grandfather so I can pass on coupons to her that I think she might need.

Now if you've never been to a printable coupon website, you might be alarmed to find that you will need to download their software. Thanks to your BEST BANG Coupon Lady and all her research, you can rest assured that I have found the following websites to be safe. Companies like coupons.com (the blue box to your left), smartsource.com and redplum.com are reputable and safe. I wouldn't download from any other website besides those three. Trust me.

There are new coupons added almost every day as the older ones start dropping off. You usually can't print the coupon more than once, so make sure you keep the ones you clip-if you lose it or toss it, you probably wont be able to print it again.

Another great way to get coupons online is to go to the manufacturer's website. You would be surprised to find that there are many manufacturer's websites that offer coupons for their products! Igot a $1.00 off coupon for Cottenelle Toilet Tissue from their website! Facebook and Twitter are surprisingly fantastic places to find coupons and great deals as well.

The moral of this story is simple. If you need to buy something-or you see something you want in your Weekly Sales Ad...AND its on super sale....CHECK YOUR COUPONS!!!!...If you don't have a coupon for that product, come back to my site and click the BLUE BOX (I am also working on getting links for the 2 other sites I mentioned!) and see if they are offering coupons for that product. Lastly, check the manufacturer's website.

This is a great find! WALMART has SNUGGLE on sale 2 for $2.00 and in last weekends coupons there was a .75 off a bottle of SNUGGLE! Use your $1.00 off coupon from FaceBook and your .75 off coupon from the paper and you get TWO bottles of Snuggle for .25!

Getting Others On Board

Other than trying to navigate through all the rules and regulations of the coupon world AND figuring out the formula for tremendous savings, I have run into another obstacle...and its a doozy.

THE HUSBAND
{Insert dramatic “Dun, Dun, duuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnn music here}

THE HUSBAND is sooooooooooooooooo not on board with this new "hobby" of mine-which is weird, because as this family's primary monetary contributor, I really thought he'd be my biggest supporter. Oh sure, he's happy if I can get a good deal on what we are going to have for dinner tonight, but when it comes to buying something just because its a good deal, he puts his foot down.

One of the big rules I have learned is that you have to change the way you look at shopping if you want to save money. Most people take a list to the store to get what they need for the next few days, or week and IF they use coupons, they clip what they can use out of this weeks Sunday paper and are happy if they can save a buck or 2. If you want to see the deep discounts and the big $Dollar$ off total on the bottom of your receipt, YOU HAVE TO CHANGE!

Now, (don't tell him I said this, but) I totally agree with THE HUSBAND when it comes to buying something just because it is a good deal....UNLESS YOU NEED IT (or WILL need it!)

For example, we have a pack of Toilet Tissue under the sink in the bathroom with 5 or 6 rolls left-but my local grocery store had 24 rolls of Cottonelle Double Roll Toilet Tissue on sale from 9.89 to 5.49 (limit 2) and I went online and printed 2-$1.00 off coupons so I got two 24 packs of Toilet paper for $9.00.

We usually get the store brand and pay $3.99 for 12 rolls so I saved almost $7.00 on this deal and I won't have to buy toilet paper for two months! I took on pack and split the rolls between our two bathrooms and put the other pack in the basement. Not quite the "stockpile" you hear about, but its a start and I'm happy.

I saved our household money! It was such a high! Yes I spent more THAT DAY because we didn't technically "NEED" the toilet paper...but its a consumable that will never go bad.

I really need to get HUSBAND on board with this. I know I'm just learning this whole "BEST BANG" thing...but I just know that, given the chance-I WILL "get it" and when I do, I will be just as good as those other ladies!!

How to get the best bang for your buck at Walgreen's

I used to only get my prescriptions and drug store-type stuff at Walgreen's. However, since I've begun studying couponing, I have found that Walgreen's is a great place to find awesome deals.

~Hot tip~
Most people don't know that you can combine the coupons you get in the Sunday Paper (or "Manufacturer Coupons" with the coupons you find in the Walgreens Sales Flyer (or "Store" coupons) to increase your savings! For example, this week

I never knew that Walgreen's offered "Register Rewards"! "Register Rewards" are "Catalina" coupons that are printed when you pay for your order. "Register Rewards" are then used on your next visit. If you look closely at the Walgreen's Sales Flyer, you will see that if you buy certain items you will get $$ back in "Register Rewards" (or "RR"). For example, this week Lysol Spray is on Sale 2/$7.00 but you get $2.00 in "RR" so its LIKE paying 2/$5.00....(now if you had a coupon like I do for $1.00 off a purchase of 2, then it would be like paying 2.00 each!

Here is a link to Walgreen's Coupon Policy...its always good to know what you can and cannot get away with! If you're trying to save money (and who isn't!?!?), you don't want to get stuck paying for something because you didn't know the rules.

I just got started so I'm not one of those "extreme" coupon queens or anything, but I am having fun clipping coupons and studying the store flyers to find the best deal!

I've been studying the best of the best and learning so much, but it's an art form, really. Seems like one of "those things" that is difficult until you really figure it out and then once you do, you too can purchase 752.00 worth of groceries for 16.00!

That is my goal.
